she had a name
July 20th, 2006I won’t stand in your way
let your hatred grow
and she’ll scream
and she’ll shout
and she’ll pray
and she had a name
yeah she had a name
and I won’t hold you back
let your anger rise
and we’ll fly
and we’ll fall
and we’ll burn
no one will recall
no one will recall
this is the last time I’ll abandon you
and this is the last time I’ll forget you
I wish I could
look to the stars
let hope burn in your eyes
and we’ll love
and we’ll hope
and we’ll die
all to no avail
all to no avail
this is the last time I’ll abandon you
and this is the last time I’ll forget you
I wish I could
this is the last time I’ll abandon you
and this is the last time I’ll forget you
I wish I could
I wish I could

July 20th, 2006Muse at The Greek Theater last night was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I have a few favorites, which include Bjork @ The Bowl, Radiohead @ The Bowl and every Powder show. This show was as good if not better than Radiohead, but can’t compare to Bjork, but that’s because she’s an alien.
The Greek is one of my favorite venues in Los Angeles, mostly due to its limited capacity. Not to mention the feeling that every seat is a good seat because the stage seems so close no matter where you are. The sound in that place is incredible, as well.
So, the show was an awesome mix of old songs from the first 2 albums, a ton of stuff from Absolution and then all the best from Black Holes. I heard all that I wanted to hear and more. The stage was set with large flowing white curtains that were being used as projector screens, powerful strobe lighting and follow spots and the band in all white and black.
The band left the stage at the end of their set, but they had yet to play 2 important songs. They came back out, to start their encore and played a song from Absolution. Then… the big finale. Matthew started playing Time is Running Out and the crowd went nuts! He got to the first chorus and the crowd was singing so loud that he stopped singing and let us do it for him! Throughout the song, you could clearly hear the crowd singing every word.
Finally, the band thanked the audience and started to play Knights of Cydonia. I was anticipating this song so much leading up to the show and I was completely blown away. Matthew’s voice is unbelieveable, but this song was made for this kind of show. From the projected lyrics on the screens to the roar of the crowd, this song was the high-point of the show. I wanted them to play it twice!
So, all in all, a progressive rock show in the Hollywood hills on a Wednesday night was just what I needed.
speaking of chaos
July 16th, 2006so, a lot of things have been turned upside down in the past few weeks. i’ve had a lot of realizations about myself and other people. what really stands out the most is my newfound paranoia about other people. i haven’t become entirely untrusting of other people, just a little more cautious.
this is something i always knew, but is good to repeat… don’t believe everything that people tell you and sometimes not helping someone is the best help you can provide.
i will be at burning man this year. i will stand on the playa and i will watch the Man burn to the ground. these are the truths i remind myself of every day. some may say i’m crazy, but i say, you don’t wanna see how crazy i would be if i didn’t see him burn.
i think i know what the Man will mean to me this year.

matt and trey
April 6th, 2006my hat is off to you gentlemen. last night’s episode of south park showed that you both have the biggest balls in hollywood. i have been waiting for someone to say what you said last night.
why the hell is the image of the profit mohammad such a touchy topic? it’s not against MY religion to depict him graphically. where the hell did free speech go? are we that scared of the rest of the world that we won’t even take a stand on this issue?
this sudden censorship this country is suffering from is perposterous. if you do not wish to read spoilers about last night’s south park, stop reading here.
the episode was about an upcoming Family Guy episode that was to show mohammad as a character in the show. the town freaked out, as they usually do. however, at the last minute, fox censored the episode.
now, up until this point, i thought this episode was all about muslims and mohammad. oh, boy did they stick it to the $camatologists in their own little way. cartman went on a rant about how a televison show is doomed once an episode is pulled from the air. this was a direct reference to comedy central pulling the rerun of the $cientology episode.
of course, the episode went on and the town began burying their heads in the sand - literally - to avoid being seen as a supporter of family guy.
and to top it all off, this was the first part of two episodes. they ended by saying something to the effect of, “See part two of Family Guy, next week on South Park. See if Comedy Central pusses out or not.”
so, it appears that Matt and Trey don’t even know if they will get to show Mohamad. or, it’s all a bunch of bullshit.
in any case, i am once again convinced that south park is still the best animated televison show around. their use of computers to make the show gives them the ability to be the most topical animated show. it takes 9 months to make an episode of the Simpsons. it generally takes matt and trey less than a week.
genius.
in memoriam
March 20th, 2006
I did not know her long, but I do know this about Baboos. Baboos was the sweetest dog anyone could ever meet. She was loving and protective and always goofy.
Baboos’ real name is Rallo and she has been with Veronica for 10 years. She grew up in the Bronx and when Veronica decided to move, Rallo came too. Most recently, they both travelled across the country in a U-Haul destined for Southern California. From what I hear, Baboos was the perfect travelling companion.
We lost Baboos on Sunday afternoon. We don’t know for sure, but the vet believes it was a massive tumor in her belly that exploded and caused her to bleed out internally. This was not a painful way to go, in fact, she was very short of breath and then just went to sleep. We were both with her when she passed and we did everything we could to try and save her.
In our mourning, we found some solace in knowing that Baboos had brought Veronica to me. She has been protecting her for so long and it was almost like she knew that it was okay to leave now that I was around.
I loved that dog more than I realized. She was a big part of my life and someone that I will miss every single day.
Rest In Peace, Baboos. Play with Malachi and meet Darwin. They’ll take good care of you.
