vegas, again

My fourth trip to Vegas in the last six months (that’s after having never been before) was a success! This trip was much different than the first 3, in that we had no intention of stepping foot on the strip, or even stepping inside a casino. Of course, the latter was not possible, but I will explain more when I get to that.

Went this time for 4 main reasons this time. First, Dave invited us to his big-assed kegger birthday extravaganza. Then, it was also Max’s birthday weekend. Also, I had planned to see Kala and Sean the next time I was in Vegas. Finally, Chris got us free tickets to Red Hed Chilli Peppers and Weezer.

The concert was our first objective, as it was at 6pm on Saturday (which is the same day we left to go up there). We got to the show late, so we only caught the last 4 Weezer songs. That was more than enough for me to be happy having seen them. They played a few of my favorites (including some new favorites), so I was content. Then, RHCP took the stage. Flea in his tighty-whities, Anthony with his long hair and the rest of the guys in tow. Their set was pretty okay. They started with a lot of new music and a few songs off the album that is coming out soon. Once we heard Soul to Squeeze, we were happy enough with the show to head out early. We probably would have stayed, but we had a kegger to get to!

So, we headed over to Dave’s place and found the party in full swing. There was a keg, lots of people and most importantly, lots of girls sitting atop Dave’s giant subwoofer. The booze flowed freely, fireworks were lit, new people were met and Dave passed out. All the makings of a great party. At some point, we all decided that it was time to head out. Maybe it was the fact that we all had to say goodbye to Dave, who was half-naked in his bed, but whatever our reasoning, we left to find some food.

This is where my plan to stay out of all casinos was ruined. We were staying at the world’s largest Super 8 motel on Koval. It just so happens that it had it’s own casino right next door. See, we were starving and there was a sign advertising the cheapest breakfast I have ever seen. So, we hit up the restaurant and got some incredibly cheap and rather tasty breakfast. Of course, being in the casino meant dropping a few bucks in some machines. I didn’t lose my shirt, just a few dollars.

Next day, we lounged around quite a bit. Went back to the restaurant for some lunch and then took a nap while Max was out with a friend who lives in Vegas. Then, we gathered ourselves and headed over to Kala and Sean’s place. There, we had fantastic pasta, tasty booze, exciting conversation, met new people and generally had a very lovely evening. Right when I thought the night was over, Sean suggested that we go to a bar. Of course, my response was that I would LOVE to go back to Crown and Anchor. So, that’s what we did. We stayed there, drinking, playing pool, abusing the jukebox and having Jager shots until 4:30am! Again, I have to say that I adore that bar.

On the way out of Vegas, we totalled up that we had been exposed to the horror that is Lance Burton 14 times in 3 days. That means we either saw his face, or his name in some way or another. Other than that horribleness, the only problems we had this weekend involved too much traffic and too much heat. Otherwise, a shining success! I highly reccomend, to those who can, to try going to Vegas without doing anything Vegasy. It’s a really interesting and fun experience.

Coming home to 2 parties, friends, booze and the best view of fireworks I have ever seen on the 4th was a great way to end this weekend. Happy birthday to Dave, Max and any other Cancers that I have forgotten.
