this little piggy went SNAP!

June 16th, 2005 | by prick |

Tuesday afternoon, while walking through my home office in bare feet, I accidentally kicked something hard and metal. I knew instantly that I had broken my toe. See, I am aware that each and every time you stub your toe, you are actually breaking it a little bit. A hairline fracture here or there… no big deal. Well, this wasn’t any ordinary toe-stubbing pain I was feeling. This pain was intense. Not sure if I remember hearing (or feeling) the bone break, but I am very positive that it did.

Since the injury, I have been limping around like a crip. Unfortunately, the toe I injured is the pinky toe on my right foot. One might not think that would cause a lot of discomfort, the pinky toe being the smallest of the toes, but it sure does. One’s pinky toe accounts for a lot of balance and support.

As Tuesday winded down, my toe appeared to be getting more and more purple. This did not affect me the way some may think it would. It just reassured me that my theory was correct and I had in fact broken my poor little toe. Now, a few days later, the toe is still nicely purple, the bruise is starting to creep down onto my foot and the toe is at least half-again as large as it usually is. Not to mention the fact that wearing a shoe on that foot creates extreme pain and discomfort.

So, my advice to all of you: wear shoes!

Ouchie, that sounds awful :( If the bruise is spreading, does that mean you should see a doctor?

That’s what generally happens with bruises, they spread as the healing begins. Not much a doctor can due about a snapped piggy. Ya just gotta wait for it to heal.

sorry to hear about the break man. pinky toes hurt like crazy. i’ve had stubs that brought involuntary tears to my eyes, but i don’t think i’ve ever truly broken one. just make sure it’s set right so it doesn’t heal crooked - that happened to liz, and she has one jank-ass ugly looking toe now /grin.
