random

Nothing specific I wanted to post about this time, just random blatherings before bed.

I watched Vanilla Sky tonight. Now, I know what you’re saying, “Patrick, don’t you have a thing about seeing $cientologist’s movies?” Yes, I do have a thing about them, but I have always said that if someone else is spending the money for the movie, I will watch. Now, if you haven’t seen the movie, then this might be a bit of a spoiler, so stop reading now.

In the movie, David is stuck in a past-mortem lucid dreaming state. His body is frozen and his brain is still on, but constantly creating the reality around him. The big line from the movie has to do with only being able to enjoy life to the fullest if life has shit on you more often than not.

This brought two feeling up inside. First, is the simple and obvious one, that you gotta have pain before you can have pleasure. It’s one of those silly zen things that are so popular these days. I think this only effected me so much in the context of the movie and in relation to the other feeling. That feeling was the psycological fear that everything around you is of your own creation. That you really could wish that the bar-full of people would just be quiet… and then it would happen. But, also the wonder of the idea that you could end your life and stay dormant in a constant dream-state. I can’t decide if that is something I would choose to do. It sounds all appealing and fun, but what if you end up like David and it all falls apart on you.

What does it all mean? Nothing, really. Just the same common human feelings that Cameron Crowe has pleasantly disguised in a weird movie. I didn’t really have a point to this post, as I said.

On another note, myspace.com is a peddler of false hope and I am awaiting the delivery of my very own copy of Duck Tales - The Curse of the Lamp (or something like that). It’s the one and only Duck Tales full-length motion picture! It was the first movie I ever went to the theater alone to see and I will soon own it on VHS. I guess some movies aren’t even good enough to have a crappy DVD.

Soon it will be mine and soon I will have my hands on my Burning Man tickets and all will be well.
